Habari Gani, to the Khepera Charter School community. The struggle continues and Khepera is surviving into its 14th year. The institution has made AYP (annual yearly progress) every year that it has been eligible and the Board of Tustees extends an Asante Sana (thank you) to the parents, students, parents and teaching staff in anticipation of a new school year. I was asked to address the stakeholders and, during my reflections I asked the parents, why did they choose Khepera to educate there children? I expect an answer in the near future. After my brief presentation I observed our Wazuri greeting our parents at a table set up with slightly used uniforms for parents to obtain at no cost. This effort of unity and teamwork, made me reflect on the logo that is the identity of Khepera. The Scarab or Dung Beetle represents the mission that is in congruence with all those who deliver services to your children. When one does the research on this symbol you will find in depth analysis of the logos use and meaning. I have given below, my interpretation of its meaning to our institution.

The Scarab that is the representation for Khepera Charter Schools' logo, presents the life of the Dung Beetle laboring and ever moving towards regeneration of what would appear to be a waste. The students that are served being driven from an arrested development to a reawakening of the Afrikan consciousness. The symbol that is used in our logo pictures the Scarab moving the sun (RA) into its new daily position to give light as well hope of a new day for our students to awake from a mental slumber through a WHMY MSW (rebirth/awakening) utilizing an Afrikan centered pedagogy, rituals, languages and, symbols to assist in the institutions board of trustees, administrators, facilitators, support staff, students, parents, and the Afrikan community reach its HEKA. To Khepera Charter School.
